Camera movement and editing: blog tasks
Blog tasks:
1) Pick three aspects of camera movement in the Minority Report clip. Identify the type of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience.
Zoom: the director might have chosen to put a scene where the camera is zoomed on the protagonist to show his face and his emotional state and what he may be feeling and thinking at the time. It also exaggerates the intensity of the scene.
Tilt: The director has used tilt to show in this case both the "villain" and the "hero" is a different angle which in this case is higher and gives us a larger perspective.
Dolly/tracks: The camera moves to track the action smoothly and in this case it was in a chase an shows all of the different events happening and what is going on.it also is moving the camera to a similar pace that the characters are going in which gives us their point of view.
2) Pick two aspects of editing in the Minority Report clip and write about what effect it has on the audience.
Film transitions: the director had cut from scene to scene to show the different living spaces and how it goes from a normal household to then a ruined one because of when their home got wrecked.
Pace: the director used a lot of pace in the scene to show the severity in which the events were going in (how fast and hectic they were). It also makes us concerned and anxious as to hat could happen next as everything is going at such a speedy pace.
3) Finally, revise last week's work on camerawork by picking out two shots or camera angles in the clip that communicate meaning to the audience.
At minute 2:55 her are three people who are running around and doing things to fix whatever problem they had and a that minute the man is putting some sort of wire into a plug and his was a low angle as it made the wire going into the plug and hen lighting look ore big and powerful.
Then at 3:21 there is a very big screen with a number on it hat a woman is looking at which is also a low angle but also a unusual perspective as the computer or screen does look really big however you can also slightly see the woman so its not necessarily just fixed on the computer however slowly does.
