Comments for AQA:

  • This candidate has a detailed statement which carefully demonstrates how their music video will use media language and representation such as the use of camera shots to reflect how the young person represents a troublesome teenager struggling within society
  • There is an array of media theories applied throughout this statement which demonstrated good knowledge and application such as Todorov’s equilibrium theory and Blumler and Katz’ uses and gratifications

Next steps:

  • You need to spend a little more time focusing on how this music video would help young adults improve the quality of life in their community (address and develop this in your first paragraph)
  • Try to just tack on the theories to what you are explaining e.g. The music video starts off with the young girl being a naughty rebellious child (equilibrium) do this for all the other examples where you try to apply theory rather than say ‘I'm also planning on including a number of theory's which include Levi strass's binary opposition theory…’
  • Check your grammar – always use the best vocabulary remove words like ‘good and bad’
  • Also consider why your choices of setting are important for the intended target audience

  Reception theory: blog task Create a new blogpost called 'Reception theory'. 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? This is the message or ideology/belief the producers want the audience to believe. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? this is when the consumer takes away an opposite message or belie differently to what the producers intended. Re-watch the trailer for the film Harry Brown: 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film? They might think teenagers are disrespectful and get caught up in violence and crime due to the people they surround themselves with or the place and area they have been brought up in.
